About clearing a record in California

California law lets the state dismiss some convictions on its own under Cal. Penal Code § 1203.425. You do not file anything. The state checks its records each month.

If you finished probation, or were let off it early, you can ask the court to dismiss your case under Cal. Penal Code § 1203.4. The court can also grant it in the interest of justice. The prosecutor gets notice and may object. Some crimes do not qualify. The law lists them.
